Tottenham fans have had a lot to say about Emerson Royal’s display in their defeat to Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur were in action again on Thursday night with another Premier League London derby, this time against Chelsea.

Brazilian full-back Emerson Royal was given the nod by Ange Postecoglou at Stamford Bridge with somewhat of an injury crisis at left-back.

Destiny Udogie has been ruled out for the remaining weeks of the season after undergoing surgery for a quadricep issue.

And now Ben Davies has came out of the Arsenal game on the weekend with a season-ending muscle injury.

Although the Brazilian is a natural right-back, he was thrown in the starting XI on the left side on a night when Spurs continued their dreadful run away to Chelsea.

Tottenham now go into their game against Liverpool on the weekend with a run of three consecutive defeats.

It was a night to forget for the Tottenham fans and it seems they were keen to share their thoughts on the display of Emerson Royal.

What Tottenham fans were all left saying about Emerson Royal at left-back

Tottenham have now gone from Champions League hopefuls to seriously looking over their shoulder in concern.

Manchester United sit in sixth place of the Premier League with just a six point deficit to the north Londoners.

And with some of the games still left to play it has to be a real fear for the Lilywhites that they could still finish lower than fifth.

The summer is going to offer Tottenham with an opportunity to make some major upgrades to their squad and full-back is one of them.

Pedro Porro and Udogie have the two starting positions nailed down, however, when either of them are absent Spurs are left with major holes to fill.

The Spurs News understand that the club are on the look out for a versatile full-back this summer and it is clear to see why on the back of Emerson’s display on Thursday.

Withdrawn in the latter stages of the game for Giovani Lo Celso, fans took to X to share their frustrations with the display from the Brazilian.

One fan said, ‘Emerson Royal might be the worst player to ever put on a Tottenham Hotspur shirt’. Whilst another one added, ‘Who wanted to keep Emerson royal? Seriously’.

One fan even claimed, ‘Emerson Royal isn’t a footballer’. And another Spurs fan said, ‘One of the biggest footballing mysteries to me is why Barcelona signed Emerson Royal. He is the least Barça player I’ve ever laid my eyes on’.

Looking ahead to the summer, one fan suggested, ‘Emerson really has to go.’ And another fan added, ‘Worst Brazilian I’ve ever seen’.

Brutal stats show just how badly Spurs need to upgrade Emerson Royal

The game at Stamford Bridge was Emerson’s 21 league appearance of the season but the majority of those have come as a substitute.

And his display made it evident why he has struggled to uproot Porro from the starting XI this season with very little to show from his evening’s work.

Here is a summary of the Brazilian’s performance.

  • 84 minutes played
  • 68 touches
  • 0 clearances
  • 0 blocked shots
  • 0 interceptions
  • 2 tackles
  • 3/10 ground duels won

A huge game is on the horizon on Sunday and with Emerson’s display there could well be an argument made for Micky van de Ven being shifted along to left-back with Radu Dragusin coming in at centre-back.
