Kieran Gibbs has named one 23-year-old Inter Miami player who could be crucial in winning MLS Cup later this year.
The Florida franchise have been in top form this year with Tata Martino’s side sitting top of the Supporters’ Shield standings having scored the most goals out of any team in MLS this season.
With Lionel Messi leading both the goalscoring and assist charts, the Argentine has hit top form already this year, with Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets also playing their parts for Inter Miami.
Yet former defender Gibbs has suggested another player could be key for the Herons.
Gibbs highlights Leonardo Campana’s importance for Inter Miami
Speaking on the Inter Miami Weekly Show, the former Arsenal and West Brom defender noted how Leonardo Campana could play an important role for Inter Miami later this season.
The 23-year-old striker returned to action this weekend against the New England Revolution, and Gibbs has now tipped Campana to be key for Inter Miami in their bid to win MLS Cup.
Gibbs said: “I like Leo. He’s been so patient, he hasn’t kicked up a fuss about not getting as many minutes after being the talisman for Inter Miami for a year, it’s not a great feeling to have when it’s taken away from you and it can knock your confidence.
“But he hasn’t let that happen to him, he’s a really strong character. really professional, he takes care of himself, and he’s always got one kind of state. He doesn’t get too down, he remains neutral, and he’s going to be important for Miami going for the title.”
Campana will want to show his worth this season
Campana last season was Inter Miami’s leading striker alongside Messi, with the Ecuador international showing he has the talent to make it in MLS with the best in the division.
And this year, the former Wolves star will want to show his worth yet again at Inter Miami, with Campana this time competing with Suarez in one of the most stacked attacks in MLS history.
Indeed, Campana has shown he can do the business in MLS, and this season, the forward can become a real icon for Inter Miami if he steps up when the going gets tough and when points are on the line.
