‘The Tory spin is out of control – they are skating on paper-thin ice,’ writes Roger Gewolb

I am simply astonished but not surprised at the appearance of the worst desperation by the Tory party we have seen yet.

First, they send one lone volunteer to Rwanda who was not part of the program under discussion and voting all these past weeks, but somebody who went willingly because he gets £3,000 plus five years’ free rent and food.

At the same time as this happened, almost half of the people identified for deportation to Rwanda have disappeared. The authorities are rounding up some, but the others may never be seen again.

And, during this week’s Prime Minister’s Questions, the Tories were crowing like roosters about what a success the plan is and how it is now “working”.

Rishi Sunak addresses the Commons

At the same time, Rishi and Hunt announced that everybody in work will receive a £900 tax cut. Even the bushmen out in the Rwandan jungles know that this is a complete baldfaced lie.

In fact, anyone earning less than £26,000 per year will actually be paying more tax; those who earn more than that will many of them be saving only a couple of hundred pounds, and only people earning over £60,000 per year will save £900 in tax.

Do the Tories still believe that the British public is so stupid that they will swallow this nonsense? They must’ve believed it for the last 14 years, but certainly, recent years or even months must’ve shown them that they are now skating on cigarette paper-thin ice.
