'We knew': Trevoh Chalobah names the Tottenham weakness which Chelsea had spotted before yesterday's game

Chelsea did enough to comfortably see off Tottenham last night and Trevoh Chalobah has revealed the Spurs weakness his team worked on all week.

Mauricio Pochettino was proud as punch as his injury riddled side overcame Champions League chasing Tottenham with relative ease.

Goals from Trevoh Chalobah and then an 11th of the season from Nicolas Jackson ensured it was smooth sailing for the Blues against their London rivals.

For Tottenham, it just another nightmare performance in a run of many, with poor defending thrown into the mix once more.

And speaking about Tottenham’s way of playing and defending, Chelsea’s Chalobah has revealed how the Blues knew something would work in their favour.

Trevoh Chalobah shares the weakness Tottenham have that Chelsea’s players knew about

Of course, Chalobah got his goal with a fine header at the back post from a Conor Gallagher delivery.

But there was a lot not to like about the goal if you were a Tottenham fan or coach.

And speaking about how he got into position to nod home, Chalobah revealed that Chelsea had been working on it all week after instruction from Mauricio Pochettino.

“We figured out the back post spin was key, it was the last game as well. That’s what we worked on and it happened,” Chalobah said on Sky Sports.

“We knew that area would be a bit isolated with Benoit being the decoy as well, standing that far back, so it causes a bit of confusion and Cucu did well to get the block in.”

Chelsea show promise when it matters

These little nuggets of detail from Chalobah always make for interesting reading and it just shows the level of detail that goes into planning for a game.

For Chelsea, last night felt like a big moment for their young side. They’re actually finishing the season quite well despite being hammered at Arsenal and there might even be a glimmer of optimism for next season.

Beating a local rival like Tottenham is never bad for morale and Pochettino will be hoping this can be a blueprint for next season.

Quite where Tottenham go, is anyone’s guess. But with Chelsea, you do now finally sense something is afoot and there’s reason – albeit only a small reason – to be optimistic.
