Jamie Redknapp saw something from Ange Postecoglou he really didn’t like after Tottenham’s defeat to Chelsea

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp has admitted he’s already noticed something worrying about Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham tasted their third consecutive defeat in the Premier League against Chelsea on Thursday at Stamford Bridge.

Ange Postecoglou was left a furious figure on the touchline as he watched his side dismantled yet again.

Spurs looked to be a real threat this season with their early season form. However, the Lilywhites now look to be a shadow of that side who took the league by storm.

Although Postecoglou will suggest he is not too fussed about qualifying for Champions League football next season, any hopes have now all but vanished.

Daniel Levy may have hoped to see Champions League revenue hit the spreadsheet but Spurs now look set for Europa League football.

With Tottenham’s season now petering out, Redknapp noticed something about Postecoglou last night that he was not overly keen on.

But the Spurs boss will have to pick himself back up quickly with a trip to Anfield coming up on Sunday.

What Jamie Redknapp spotted about Ange Postecoglou vs Chelsea

Postecoglou had to watch his side taken a part by a Chelsea side that had to call up a full substitutes bench worth of academy players.

The Australian made some big calls with his starting XI last night as he chose to finally drop the out of form James Maddison.

It wasn’t a move which really worked for the 58-year-old with Maddison coming on in the second half with Dejan Kulusevski failing to impress either.

And the Australian’s frustrations could be seen by all as the cameras picked up on his angry outburst from the touchline.

However, speaking on Sky Sports‘ coverage of the game, Redknapp admitted he was concerned by what else he noticed about the Spurs boss.

“They have won two out of their last seven since they beat Aston Villa in one of the best performances I have seen this season,” he said.

“The other thing that really worries me is that they have only played 37 games this year. They lost in the Carabao Cup second round and the FA Cup fourth round. There is no fatigue involved. If you put that into context Aston Villa have played 52 games and still look so fresh.

“For Tottenham right now I look at the manager and he looks beaten. That’s pretty damning, I don’t like to see a manager like that. I do think there are a lot of manager who when you manage Tottenham a lot of them get like that after a while but that’s really early.”

What Ange Postecoglou said after the game about the performance

Clearly, the Australian was left seething after the 90 minutes in west London as his post-game press conference lasted just over two minutes.

Postecoglou did, however, take responsibility for the display after changing up the side following another dismal display against Arsenal.

“Like I said, my responsibility is preparing the team every game to make sure we reach certain levels. We didn’t do it today so that lies at my feet and I’ve got to fix that,” Postecoglou said after the game.

Spurs still have four games left and it will be interesting to see what changes he makes again on the weekend to face Liverpool.

The players are not performing to the levels they’re capable of, but the constant changing of the side is not helping.

With nothing really left to play for, perhaps Postecoglou needs to stick with the players he feels will be playing for him next season.
