The clause Manchester City inserted in Tommy Doyle’s Wolves contract now revealed

Wolves have completed the permanent signing of Tommy Doyle from Manchester City and the full details of his switch have now emerged.

Wolves supporters were crying out for Fosun to activate Tommy Doyle’s £4.3 million release clause and capture him from Manchester City.

As revealed this morning by the Wanderers’ official channels, Doyle has made his move to Molineux permanent after impressing Gary O’Neil throughout this campaign. He’s signed a deal until 2028 with a two-year option to extend.

The England under-21 star has shone as a playmaking metronome in the Wolves engine room, starring alongside Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes.

The 22-year-old has made 24 appearances in the Premier League, and while a large chunk of them have come from the bench, O’Neil sees the young midfielder as a long-term part of his plans, which is why he’s rushed to sign him permanently.

The clause Manchester City have inserted in Tommy Doyle’s contract

Man City are known for letting young talent depart the Etihad while inserting a buyback clause and a sell-on fee in players’ contracts.

This is no different with Doyle’s move to Molineux, as City have reportedly put a buy-back agreement in his deal that can only be activated in the next two windows and retaining a huge 50 per cent sell-on clause if Wolves sell him in the future.

Doyle’s exit is the latest in a string of lucrative academy sales following the likes of Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia, Carlos Borges, Shea Charles and James Trafford in recent seasons.

With Wolves playing Man City tomorrow night, O’Neil would have wanted to have Doyle available for selection, though he’s ineligible as the permanent transfer won’t go through until the end of the season.

Tommy Doyle is a fantastic signing

Doyle’s performances will have caught the eye of several Premier League clubs, but as the youngster has settled in well, Wolves had first preference.

It’s great the club have secured a deal now because many supporters feared they’d leave it until the summer, by which time several other teams would have been circling, potentially making it harder to snap him up.

Nonetheless, Doyle is here to stay in Wolverhampton and the Man City academy graduate couldn’t be happier about securing a move.

“It’s amazing. I’m really happy,” he told Wolves official. “I found out not too long ago what’s going to happen and it’s obviously very exciting for me, having enjoyed this season so far, and I’m looking forward to trying to better what we’ve done next season.

“I’ve known for a little while that there were talks, and the other day it was more official. I’ve enjoyed it here, everyone’s been really great with me, the manager, the staff and especially the lads. It’ll be good to battle in the league again with them next season.

Hopefully, the signing of the talented Englishman sets the tone for the upcoming transfer window, capturing quality youngsters for nominal fees.
