'Superb' striker now tops Mikel Arteta transfer wishlist to complete Arsenal dream team

Arsenal have been linked with several top strikers across Europe for over a year now, and it seems that Mikel Arteta is still keen on strengthening his attack.

Kai Havertz has excelled as a striker in recent months, but it seems that Arsenal still want a centre-forward capable of scoring at an elite level, whilst it has also been suggested that Gabriel Jesus could make a surprise exit.

The Gunners were long linked with Ivan Toney of Brentford, but interest appears to have cooled in recent months, whilst Joshua Zirkzee of Bologna and Viktor Gyokeres are also options linked with a move to the Emirates.

However, it now appears that Newcastle forward Alexander Isak, who was linked with Arsenal prior to his move to the Geordies, is now Arteta’s main target.

Alexander Isak is now Mikel Arteta’s desired striker at Arsenal

A report from The Independent has now claimed that Arteta is “intent” on signing the 24-year-old and that the Sweden star is the number one preferred choice out of all the options available to Arteta.

Arteta believes that Isak is the striker who can complete his team, and is keen on a move, but a deal may be difficult as Newcastle are reluctant to sell their star man despite a struggle to comply with profit and sustainability regulations.

Isak has scored 23 goals in 36 games across all competitions this season, with 19 of these strikes coming in 26 Premier League matches.

Arsenal have scored the most goals in the Premier League this season, but they are still in need of a bit more speed and firepower.

Arteta’s side endured four goalless games in the Premier League this season, whilst also failing to net in Champions League knockout ties away at FC Porto and Bayern Munich.

Having a striker as devastating in front of goal as Isak, with his speed in transition, could help them score even during an off day where they are struggling to create.

Isak has been described as “superb” by former striker Alan Shearer, and he would bring an excellent blend of height, speed and clinical finishing ability to complement Havertz upfront, and the pair, as well as Jesus and Leandro Trossard, could all rotate in what would be an excellent roster of forwards.
