Failed 'ringmaster' Marjorie Taylor Greene puts GOP majority 'in jeopardy': Ex-RNC chair

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's (R-GA) refusal to back down from her plans to force the ouster of House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) will cause a rupture in the Republican Party that could ensure a loss of the House in November.

That is the opinion of former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele, who scorched the Georgia lawmaker for lacking a basic understanding of how being the majority party is supposed to work.

According to Steele, who currently co-hosts MSNBC's "The Weekend," the far-right wing of the GOP caucus has turned the Republican-majority House into a "circus" with Rep. Greene "determined to be the ringmaster."

With the Georgia lawmaker stating her desire to oust Johnson is in the best interest of the party, Steele asserted she could not be more wrong.

"But Greene doesn’t care about the Republican majority. If she did, she would’ve listened to nearly every one of her Republican colleagues and other top Republican officials who urged her not to take this path," he wrote before warning, "The lack of party unity could put the Republican majority in jeopardy."

Adding to that, he noted that Greene is fighting a losing battle since Donald Trump has already come to Johnson's defense.

"Greene’s objections may be loud and incendiary, but if Republicans see her antics for what they are and choose instead to put partisanship aside for good faith conversations, her governing style can fade into irrelevance and elected officials can finally get back to work," he suggested.
