Cristian Romero issues Ange Postecoglou message after Tottenham’s defeat to Chelsea last night

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has now issued a message to Ange Postecoglou following their defeat last night.

The defeat at Stamford Bridge will have been a difficult one to take for Tottenham who simply did not show up once again.

It is now three defeats in a row for Ange Postecoglou‘s side in the Premier League and it does not get any easier with a trip to Liverpool on Sunday.

Any realistic hopes of finishing in the top four have now been squashed and the pressure is off these Tottenham players.

However, there may be some who are now playing for their futures at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ahead of the summer.

One player who will not be going anywhere over the summer is the club’s vice captain, Cristian Romero.

And on the back of the dismal display at Stamford Bridge, the World Cup winner has now issued a message of support for his manager.

What Cristian Romero did after the defeat to Chelsea

In a season where there has been some seriously underwhelming performances from certain players, Romero has maintained his form over the course.

Players like James Maddison and Yves Bissouma made electric starts to the season but both have tailed off massively since October/November.

Playing alongside summer signing Micky van de Ven, the Argentine has put together an incredibly impressive 2023/24 campaign.

Having been made the vice-captain over the summer by Postecoglou, the 26-year-old has transformed his discipline record for the better.

But Romero has been a regular in this Spurs side which have kept just one clean sheet since the turn of the year in the league.

Postecoglou has spoke from Hotspur Way earlier today about the need for acceptance that mixed results are just part of a rebuild progress.

And in the wake of those comments, Romero has seemingly backed his manager by reposting the club’s post on X sharing the quotes.

“You have to go through tough times when you’re building something, it’s a necessary part of the process,” Postecoglou said.

The feeling is mutual between Cristian Romero and Ange Postecoglou

Romero put in a huge shift on the weekend in the North London Derby where he netted Tottenham’s first goal.

And it has to be said he should have brought Spurs level at Stamford Bridge with a header inside the first half.

However, his consistently brilliant levels of performances have been credited by his manager in recent days.

“He was outstanding. He’s a World Cup winner and I just need to get some of what’s in him into some of the others,” said Postecoglou.

Given some of the displays shown by some Spurs players recently, there should be more players looking at Romero’s fight for some inspiration.
