Manchester City have reportedly made contact with the entourage of a player that Manchester United have on their transfer radar.
The Blues have shown over previous transfer windows that they aren’t shy when it comes to signing young players from foreign clubs, with names like Jeremy Doku and Josko Gvardiol coming to mind.
Looking ahead to the upcoming summer window, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding another young talent currently making a name for himself in one of Europe’s top five leagues the Citizens have their eyes on.
City make contact with entourage of young goalkeeper
According to a recent report in Friday’s written edition of Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), City have approached the entourage of Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas, who has been of interest to the Red Devils recently.
The shot-stopper, who has been described as an “excellent” goalkeeper by former Lazio striker Fabrizio Ravanelli, only joined the Italian club during the previous summer transfer window.
Since then, the 22-year-old has made 10 appearances for Lazio across Serie A and the Italy Cup, conceding seven goals and keeping five clean sheets in the process.
Christos Mandas has proved himself to be a capable shot-stopper
Across his seven Serie A appearances, the Greek international has faced 19 shots on target and has saved 15 of them, leaving him with a save percentage of 78.9%.
This is higher than the save percentage that Lazio’s first-choice goalkeeper, Ivan Provedel, has for this season (73.4%).
Taking into account how Stefan Ortega’s current contract at the Manchester club is set to expire in the summer of 2025, in addition to the fact that there has been some speculation about his future with the Blues, this could be why they have apparently been in contact with Mandas’ representatives.
Moving forward, it’ll be interesting to see how the Lazio goalkeeper performs between now and the end of the season and if he ends up making a move to Manchester in the summer, whether it be with the Blues or the Reds.
