David Ornstein gives his verdict on why Arsenal are unlikely to sign two attacking stars

Arsenal have been linked with both strikers and wingers ahead of the summer transfer window, but deals currently do not look easy.

Mikel Arteta is keen to add to his attacking ranks, and Newcastle star Alexander Isak is now reportedly the number one target at centre-forward.

Arsenal also need to add speed in wide areas, as well as a player who could help rotate for Bukayo Saka, and a number of options have been linked.

One long-term target is Wolves star Pedro Neto, but his consistent injury issues have perhaps meant that interest has cooled, whilst Athletic Bilbao sensation Nico Williams is also on the radar.

However, journalist David Ornstein has now highlighted issues Arsenal will face if they attempt to sign either winger.

Arsenal could face problems in pursuit of Pedro Neto or Nico Williams

In a Q&A with The Athletic, Ornstein explained that Neto’s injury record and price tag means a move to the Emirates is unlikely for the Wolves attacker, and that Arsenal will face stiff competition for Williams.

“Arsenal have long wanted depth / competition in the wide forward positions and we have reported on their interest in Neto. Given his injury record and likely price, this is not a deal I would imagine is a priority for them this summer,” he explained.

“Also there are multiple other clubs considering a move for Neto, so even if Arsenal decided to pursue him they would face competition. Williams is among the other options Arsenal like but they are not his only admirers and there is no guarantee he leaves Bilbao.”

Williams has been exceptional since breaking through into the first team at Athletic Bilbao, and he helped them win a historic Copa Del Rey trophy this season.

The 21-year-old has scored seven times and provided 16 assists in 34 games across all competitions this season, and would bring outstanding speed and dribbling ability to the Arsenal front line.

Neto has performed well for Wolves when fit, but his injury issues are too much of a red flag for Arsenal to pursue a deal, and Williams should be the priority if he can be convinced to leave the Basque Country.

A £43m release clause could make a deal straightforward if he is open to a move, but the strong interest in him from elsewhere still remains an issue for Arsenal.
