Wolves have been urged to sign a ‘special’ Brazilian talent this summer and if they do, the Wanderers could repeat the success of capturing Joao Gomes.
Gomes arrived at Wolves as a relatively unknown quantity. The Old Gold signed him in January 2023 for £15 million from Brazilian giants Flamengo.
Fast forward 16 months and the 23-year-old has emerged as one of the best destructive midfielders in the league.
Gomes ranks third for most tackles in the Premier League this term (110), behind only Sheffield United’s Vinicius Souza (121) and Fulham’s Joao Palhinha (138).
The improvement in the Wolves star and his blossoming partnership with Mario Lemina has been incredible, with Gary O’Neil deserving of so much credit.
When O’Neil arrived at Molineux last summer, everyone knew that Gomes was a combative talent, but the former Bournemouth manager has elevated the technical side of his game, seeing improvements in his progressive passes and pass completion.
Wolves have shown they can get the best out of the destructive midfielder, and that should prompt them to explore the Brazilian market further.
Wolves urged to sign Brazilian wonderkid Estevao
Chelsea are preparing a £47 million bid, as per TEAMtalk, to land Brazilian wonderkid Estevao from Palmeiras.
The 17-year-old is regarded as one of the hottest prospects on the planet, alongside teammate Endrick, who is joining Real Madrid this summer.
Despite the Blues’ interest in Estevao, journalist Bruno Andrade, as relayed by Sport Witness, has urged him to think carefully about a move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have a chequered history of signing young Brazilian talents, which is why Andrade believes lower Premier League sides such as Brighton, Nottingham Forest or Wolves would be a better destination for him.
Who is Estevao
Despite only turning 17 last month, Estevao has already become a star for Palmeiras in 2024, scoring six and assisting three goals in 17 appearances this term.
Described by talent scout Antonio Mango as ‘special’, there is every reason to believe he can become the next world-beating star to emerge from Brazil.
The youngster has even been compared to the great Lionel Messi for his electrifying dribbling and pace. He originally used the nickname ‘Messinho’ as an homage to Messi, due to similarities in their playing style.
With Pedro Neto potentially departing for big money this summer, Wolves could use that cash to activate Estevao’s €45 million (£38 million) release clause to lure him to Molineux.
Although that is a lot of money to pay for a teenager, there is a long-term guarantee that they’d pocket a hefty profit in the future, or he’d become a star in Wolverhampton.
Of course, with apparent interest from Chelsea and Arsenal, the chances of signing him are slim, but if they were to live up to Bruno Andrade’s request, he could be the next Brazilian to light up the Premier League.
