Few thought it possible, though a 2-0 win away at Sunderland on Saturday afternoon sees Danny Rohl’s side finish in 20th place of the table.
Goals came from Liam Palmer and Windass in the first half, with Wednesday holding on after the break to seal the win and secure their Championship safety for another year.

Windass has often been a talking point among Sheffield Wednesday fans.
His class has never been debated, though he’s spent a lot of time out injured during his five years at the club and his goals record this season wasn’t great up until a few weeks ago.
The 30-year-old finishes the season with three goals in as many games.
He cements his tag as a ‘big game player’ after netting the Wembley winner against Barnsley last summer and with his contract out next month, fans are desperate for him to get a new one.
