'Solid for Newcastle once again': Chris Sutton hails £72k-a-week Magpies ace who didn't get on scoresheet today

Newcastle United cruised to a 4-1 win over Burnley in Saturday’s Premier League meeting at Turf Moor.

The Magpies didn’t exactly begin brightly, but they took the lead against the run of play in the 19th minute of the match.

Callum Wilson poked home on the rebound after Alexander Isak had drawn a save from Clarets keeper Arijanet Muric.

Newcastle never looked back after taking the lead, going on to double their advantage in the 35th minute.

Jacob Murphy set up Sean Longstaff to stroke the ball into the far corner, leaving Muric with no chance.

The third for Newcastle came five minutes before half-time as Anthony Gordon squared for the unmarked Bruno Guimaraes to fire in at the near post.

Eddie Howe’s charges then pulled further ahead as Murphy crossed into the box for Isak to take a touch and fire into the unmanned net.

Although Burnley pulled a goal back through Dara O’Shea’s header on 86 minutes, it was too little too late for the Lancastrians.

Although the Magpies were busy in front of goal and made it count on the scoresheet, Chris Sutton loved what he saw from a player who didn’t score.

Sutton, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, singled Newcastle defender Dan Burn out for praise, hailing his consistency.

What has Chris Sutton said about Newcastle defender Dan Burn?

“Dan Burn has been pretty solid for Newcastle once again,” Sutton said of the £72,000-a-week ace. “He has been a really consistent performer for them.”

Burn was solid on the day, clocking up some good stats for the Tyneside outfit, as per Sofascore.

The 31-year-old weighed in with three tackles, three clearances and one interception. He also won three ground duels and three aerial duels.

Newcastle are now sixth in the Premier League table and will fancy their chances of leapfrogging an out-of-form Tottenham outfit in the coming weeks.
