'The truth is': Inter Miami manager says who was better last night - Lionel Messi or Luis Suarez

Inter Miami manager Tata Martino has given his verdict on who was better last night between Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

It was yet another historic night for the Argentine international as Messi became the first player in MLS history to assist five times in a single game, with Suarez scoring his first hat-trick for Inter Miami since signing in January.

Winning 6-2 against an in-form New York Red Bulls side, the win was arguably the best Inter Miami have enjoyed in this new era of the franchise, with recent signing Matias Rojas also scoring two fantastic goals courtesy of Messi.

And Martino has now given his verdict on who had the better game between Messi and Suarez.

Speaking to the Miami Herald, Martino lauded both Messi and Suarez as ‘phenomenal’ when asked who was his Man of the Match, with the Inter Miami manager, of course, giving a politician’s answer and not stating a clear option.

Indeed, for many fans, it’s clear that Messi enjoyed the better game giving that the forward assisted an astonishing five goals and scored one himself in what was another otherworldly performance from the soccer legend.

Yet credit must also be given to Suarez, who without his finishing in front of goal would not have been able to get Messi yet another insane record for his personal list of accolades in the game throughout his career.

Martino said: “That is a tough question. The truth is they were all phenomenal. Leo made league history with five assists and a goal. But I can’t forget about Luis’ three goals and the two from Matias.”

Herons fans need to enjoy Messi and Suarez whilst they’re here

Messi and Suarez have hit top form together just under three months into the new MLS season, with Inter Miami looking unstoppable with the pair leading the line together.

And for supporters of the Herons, they need to enjoy the duo whilst they’re still here, with Messi and Suarez not sticking around at Inter Miami for the rest of their lives.

This season could be as good as it gets with the pair in this kind of form, and if Messi and Suarez can bring MLS Cup to Florida, Inter Miami fans will be more than pleased with their accomplishments.
