'Really at it': Chris Sutton says Celtic man who wasn't 'quite right' looked back to his best vs Hearts

Celtic really are hitting a rich vein of form at just the right time this season.

With just three games left of the season to go, Brendan Rodgers‘ team have scored 12 goals in their last four games and heads into the Glasgow Derby next weekend with a nice lead at the top of the table.

But as well as the advantage at the top of the Scottish Premiership, Celtic are also looking good as they welcome back their best players from injury.

Daizen Maeda made a miraculous recovery to make a second-half appearance for the Hoops but it was the return in form of Callum McGregor that really pleased Chris Sutton.

McGregor looked ‘really at it’ for Celtic vs Hearts

Whilst the likes of Matt O’Riley and Kyogo Furuhashi stole the headlines, Sutton believes it’s the return of the Celtic captain that bodes well for the upcoming Rangers game next weekend.

Sutton said [Sky Sports], “We know that Hearts have proved to be difficult customers for Celtic this season.

“So to win as they did yesterday was a big three points. The supporters were up for it. And it was an important victory.

“Callum McGregor coming back, when I say coming back, he has played the last month but hasn’t been quite right.

“But yesterday he seemed to be really at it. Hatate is getting fitter now, O’Riley was back to his best and that Celtic midfield going into next week’s game is looking pretty good again.”

McGregor has not looked like himself over the last few games and there may have been a real concern amongst the Celtic fans about that with the Glasgow Derby coming up.

But all that was put to one side as the Hoops legend put in a superb performance in the 3-0 win over Hearts and made many lung-bursting defensive runs to shut down the Hearts threat from midfield.

McGregor has been absolutely pivotal for Celtic in the games against Rangers this season and there is no doubt that having him on top form for the game next weekend will be a huge plus for Brendan Rodgers and the Celtic fans.
