'We should use this': Danny Rohl outlines clear transfer strategy at Sheffield Wednesday this summer

Sheffield Wednesday are in store for yet another huge summer rebuild, though fans will be hoping that this one lasts.

Every summer it seems Sheffield Wednesday release a load of players, and then bring in another horde of free agents.

And this summer may well be similar.

The Owls have a number of players set to see their contracts expire and set to see their loan deals come to an end, meaning that Danny Rohl and co will simply have to hit the transfer market hard.

But the club will be hoping to avoid a repeat of this summer where a number of key first-team players are out of contract.

That, and signing players on longer-term deals should be the aim for Sheffield Wednesday.

Rohl though has spoke positively about the loan market ahead of the summer.

Danny Rohl hints at Sheffield Wednesday loans

Rohl already has an eye on the summer transfer window.

He recently spoke to The Star about his plans, revealing his hopes for Sheffield Wednesday in the loan market this summer.

They’ve had successes with James Beadle, who the Owls are keen on re-signing on loan from Brighton, whilst Ike Ugbo and Ian Poveda also impressed on loan.

Rohl said: “When I arrived here and you got feedback from players, agents and other clubs, it was not always easy.

“But now you see more and more, a lot of people recognising what we are doing and how we can improve young players and give them a platform for the next step. It could be a key moment for us in the summer.

“Premier League clubs could see they have some good, young players and that the players can improve at our club very well. I think we should use this.”

The loan problem that Sheffield Wednesday and Danny Rohl now face

There’s no doubting that Rohl is right in what he says.

Sheffield Wednesday are now an attractive team for the likes of Brighton to send youngsters like Beadle.

But the issue may be that the likes of Brighton and other teams don’t know how Sheffield Wednesday will fare next season.

The Owls have a first-team to rebuild and what resources Rohl will have remains to be seen.

So teams may wait to see how Sheffield Wednesday bolster and how they set up for next season before lending them players for the 2024/25 campaign.

That could mean rival Championship teams with already-established first-teams beating the Owls to names like Beadle and any other targets.

Sheffield Wednesday then need to state their intent this summer, and get in the market quickly so that they can attract these top youngsters for next season.
