This celebrity chef is selling his N.J. home, and the price was just reduced

The home is listed for $3,899,000.

Celebrity chef “Bobby Chez,” famous for his crabcakes, is selling his custom-built home in Moorestown. And it just had a price reduction.

The 9,000-square-foot home, built in 2005, has five bedrooms, four full- and two half-bathrooms. It was originally listed in June 2023 for $4,388,000. The price was reduced April 1 by $489,000. It’s now listed for $3,899,000.

The new price better reflects the current market, said listing agent Melissa Young of the Drayton Young Group at Compass Real Estate in Moorestown.

The ranch home sits in the middle of a 4-acre property, which has an in-ground pool and a pond that’s stocked with fish.

You enter the home through a seven-foot Mahogany double door into a grand entryway with a chandelier that’s from the movieThe Stepford Wives, Young said. To the right is a cherry wood office and to the left is a Ralph Lauren dining room. Straight ahead is a great room with a floor to ceiling, dual-sided fireplace, one of five fireplaces in the home. On the other side of the dual-sided one in the great room is the bar room, which has a wet bar with a wine refrigerator, sink, dishwasher, two Sub-Zero ice machines and three built-in televisions.

Four of the bedrooms are on the main level and a fifth bedroom is up a set of stairs to an area of the home that is only partially built out. “He built out 1,000 square feet and there’s 7,000 square feet of raw space,” Young said.

There are two primary bedroom suites on either end of the home. The other two bedrooms share a Jack-and-Jill bathroom. The main primary bedroom is Louboutin-inspired, has a custom closet and a large spa bathroom with his and hers water closets.

The Clive Christian kitchen, which she said spans 2,000 square feet, has four ovens, an eight-burner stove and three Sub-Zero refrigerators.

The home was positioned on the lot to take advantage of morning sun and sunsets for outdoor dining in the backyard. “He’s an entertainer,” she said. “It was built to entertain, to share with your loved ones.”

The seller, whose real name is Robert Sliwowski, was raised in Haddon Heights and Cherry Hill. He ran Chez Robert, a French restaurant in Westmont, with his mother for 20 years.

He opened the first Bobby Chez Seafood Specialties store in 1997 in Voorhees, where his jumbo lump crabcakes quickly drew acclaim winning state and regional awards. He now sells about 30,000 crabcakes per week and other gourmet prepared seafood and side dishes at four retail stores in Cherry Hill, Collingswood, Washington Township/Sewell and Delran, according to his website.

He has also sold hundreds of thousands of crabcakes on national shopping networks and sells wholesale to ShopRite and Acme supermarkets and local delis and restaurants in South Jersey.

Sliwowski is selling the home because he plans to retire to Saratoga, New York, and Arizona, Young said.

Moorestown, in Burlington County, had a median sales price of $810,000 for single family homes in March, according to the most recent data available from New Jersey Realtors. That’s an increase of nearly 39% from a year ago when the median sales price was $583,450.

The town is a “premier location” to live in South Jersey, Young said, because it is 15 minutes east of Center City Philadelphia, an hour from the Jersey Shore and one and a half hours from New York City. “It’s a really great location,” she said.

The listing has drawn interest from celebrities and there are a lot of people in the medical profession who live in Moorestown, Young said. But she thinks the buyer will “probably be a corporate executive,” she said.
