'Like The Apprentice to prove how unprincipled you are': Ex-Trump aide skewers VP search

"The View's" co-host, Alyssa Farah Griffin, trashed politicians desperate to be Donald Trump's vice presidential running mate Monday, saying they're compromising everything and lying about their background.

At the top of the show Monday, the hosts brought up the next installment of South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem's disastrous unveiling of her new book. Not only did she confess to shooting a puppy and a goat, she also lied about meeting Kim Jong Un and canceling a meeting with French President Emanuel Macron. In a statement, Macron's office said it never happened.

Over the weekend, Noem was faced with questions about the matter and refused to admit she lied. Instead, she blamed the media.

“Well, Sean, you know how the fake news works. They leave out some or most of the facts of a story. They put the worst spin on it. And that’s what’s happened in this case,” Noem told Fox host Sean Hannity.

Meanwhile another potential pick, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), refused to say if he would accept the results of the 2024 election over weekend.

Speaking to NBC's Kristen Welker, Scott pledged, "At the end of the day, the 47th president will be Donald Trump."

Welker asked him several times, "Yes or no," whether he would accept the results.

"That is my statement," Scott replied.

"The View" co-hosts couldn't figure out what was going on. Sara Haines couldn't understand why Noem didn't know what was in her own book. She then advised Noem that, when someone is in a hole, they should stop digging.

Ana Navarro explained that the governor's goal appeared to be that she wants to get her biography out as widely as possible to boost her chances of becoming vice president.

"That's probably also why she got new, fake teeth for free in Texas," quipped Navarro.

"Margaret Brennan does not play," Griffin said of another Noem interview over the weekend, on CBS' "Face the Nation."

"Why she thought this was a good idea is bizarre to me. She comes off as unhinged at this point."

She mentioned a threat Noem made against President Joe Biden's dog, implying she would shoot the German Shepard Commander, who was re-homed after a number of biting incidents involving the Secret Service.

"She said, 'Say hello to Cricket for me. That's her dog she put down,'" said Griffin. "How cruel is that? Also, the North Korean lie is just so easily provable. We don't have diplomats you can do relations with in North Korea. It was a breaking of historic norms when President Trump met him. There would be so much documentation of this meeting, so much press around, and she thought she was going to be able to get away and lie about it?"

"The Veepstakes right now feel like 'The Apprentice,' but proving how unprincipled and willing to grovel you are," said Griffin.

"[Scott is] a fairly young person. Elise Stefanik is fairly young. Kristi Noem. Do they not realize there's going to be a world in which Donald Trump is not the center of the Republican universe? You could just stand by your principles and wait it out until you can say things that you believe and not have to just bald-faced lie to get a job."

Navarro said that this is part of the new Republican Party under Trump's leadership.
