Movement of vessels through the Bosporus Strait in Türkiye has been halted in both directions after the cargo ship ALEXIS, en route from Ukraine to Egypt, ran aground due to equipment malfunction, citing CNN Turk.

According to the Coast Guard management, the 229-meter-long vessel named ALEXIS ran aground before the Haydarpaşa pier in Istanbul.

Tugboats, fast rescue boats, and divers were immediately dispatched to the scene. "Vessel traffic through the Bosporus has been temporarily suspended in both directions," the statement said.

After Russia withdrew from the grain deal last July, a special maritime corridor was established to protect grain exports from ports.

The National Bank of Ukraine incorporates uninterrupted functioning of the maritime route into its forecast. The monthly capacity is expected to be around 7 million tons, sufficient for exporting agricultural products and expanding supplies of GMK products to traditional markets for Ukraine.
