‘He’s been so good’: Matt O’Riley says ‘awesome’ Celtic teammate deserves international call-up

Matt O’Riley looks back to his best after the Celtic midfielder scored in the 3-0 win over Hearts at the weekend.

The Danish international had been struggling of late but after his brilliant performance against the capital club, O’Riley looks back to his best just in time for the Glasgow Derby against Rangers on Saturday.

However, the Celtic midfielder has been blown away by another Hoops teammate this season. O’Riley has hailed one Celtic star he believes deserves an international call-up and a place on the Scotland plane for the upcoming Euros in Germany.

James Forrest ‘deserves’ Scotland call-up

James Forrest has been a revelation for Celtic over the last four weeks. His performance against Aberdeen helped Brendan Rodgers book his place in the Scottish Cup Final this month.

His double against Dundee secured a precious three points in the title race and he also wowed the Celtic fans with his performance against Hearts.

And that is why O’Riley wants Steve Clarke to pick up the phone to his Hoops teammate.

O’Riley said [Daily Record], “That would be awesome. You can’t say he doesn’t deserve it to some extent. He’s been so good in the last couple of months.

“They should take him because he’s very good. He’s just a good guy to have around the place too and that’s something to take into consideration and hopefully, some of the other lads go too.

“At least four have a chance to go, which would be nice.”

Whether Clarke will do that is unlikely. The Scotland boss tends to stay loyal to the players who have served him well.

And whilst Forrest was one of those players at the start of Clarke’s tenure as the Scotland boss, the Celtic winger hasn’t pulled on the Dark Blue’s jersey since 2018.

Should Forrest get that call and Celtic seal the last two trophies of the season, it will cap off what was turning out to be an underwhelming season for the Hoops legend as he struggled for gametime.
