'Little bit inconsistent': Ben Foster says £32m Chelsea player perfectly sums up Mauricio Pochettino's team

Ben Foster has named the one player he thinks perfectly sums up the Chelsea team right now.

Chelsea fans have watched yet another turbulent season unfold before their eyes, but the light at the end of the tunnel is they could yet qualify for European football.

The Blues reached the Carabao Cup final and FA Cup semi-final during domestic cup competitions this campaign, losing to Liverpool and Manchester City, respectively. As for the Premier League, Chelsea currently sit seventh with three matches remaining.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side has been guilty of inconsistency throughout the whole year, but there’s recent signs that this young squad is gelling together. It’s back-to-back wins over Tottenham and West Ham last week that has lifted them to seventh in the league table.

Ben Foster names player who sums up Chelsea

Ben Foster has claimed that you can draw huge parallels between Chelsea and Nicolas Jackson.

The 22-year-old striker has lead the line for the Blues during his debut year at Stamford Bridge. It’s fair to say he’s been inconsistent so far.

He’s come under-fire for criticism throughout the campaign for poor finishing. For example, speaking via talkSPORT back in January, Jamie O’Hara claimed Jackson would never be good enough to become Chelsea’s main striker. Also, Jackson’s missed 22 big chances in the Premier League this season, the third most in the division (Premier League’s official website).

However, Jackson’s still made key contributions for the Blues and is up to 16 goals across all competitions so far this season.

“I think he is kind of symptomatic of that Chelsea team in general really, little bit inconsistent, kind of hit and miss. You get a really good performance, and then you get a not-so-sure,” Foster said on his YouTube channel.

We’ve seen Jackson enjoy little spells of top form during this first year in England. It looks like he’s going through one now.

It’s now five goals in his last five league appearances for the young centre-forward, which included a brace versus West Ham on Sunday.

The £32m frontman (The Guardian) will hope his goals can help get the Blues over the line and into Europe for next season.
