Report: Strong expectation at Newcastle over what Feyenoord are planning to do next with Yankuba Minteh

Newcastle United fans are waiting to find out whether or not they will be watching Yankuba Minteh in black and white next season.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a sensational year on loan at Feyenoord, leading to suggestions that he could be involved at St James’ Park next season.

Eddie Howe is planning to look at the winger in pre-season, and Yankuba Minteh could get the chance to prove that he is ready to play a part in the Premier League.

But Feyenoord have also been linked with keeping the teenager for another year, and it has been claimed that Minteh would be interested in returning to Rotterdam for another loan spell.

Arne Slot heading to Liverpool this summer

However, there have been fears that plans could be altered ahead of a big change at Feyenoord.

They are about to lose their manager, with Arne Slot braced to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. It is an incredible opportunity for the Dutchman, and one he deserves after three brilliant seasons.

In Slot’s first year with Feyenoord, he was runner up in the Europa Conference League. In year two, he won the Eredivisie. And in year three, he won the KNVB Cup.

Now he is moving to an even bigger club in Liverpool, and the Athletic have provided an update on whether Slot’s departure could impact Feyenoord’s interest in Minteh.

Whether Feyenoord will still want Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle

According to the Athletic, Feyenoord are still expected to want Minteh back on loan even though Slot is leaving.

They add that the 45-year-old was the one pushing to re-sign the youngster from Newcastle, although there is now a close relationship between Feyenoord and the Magpies that could lead to another deal being done.

The Athletic add that Newcastle are seeking clarification over Feyenoord’s stance.

Big decision for Newcastle over Minteh

It is an important summer for Minteh. He has done very well at Feyenoord, and could benefit from another year there. He is thriving in the Netherlands, and shown real signs of development. It appears to be a good environment for him.

But whether that continues to be the case may depend on who they appoint to replace Slot. That could impact whether Newcastle send Minteh back, as a new manager might have a completely different style and system that would not suit the Toon winger.

Alternatively, Minteh could look so good in pre-season that Howe decides he does not need another year out on loan.

But the most likely outcome is another year of regular football out on loan, and Feyenoord could be the best place for him in an ideal world.
