MLS legend has noticed what Lionel Messi is thinking when Inter Miami teammates give the ball away

MLS legend Sacha Kljestan has noticed what Lionel Messi is thinking when Inter Miami teammates give the ball award.

The former FC Barcelona attacker has been in unstoppable form in MLS in the last four games with Messi now back to full fitness and dominating the league in the process, with the forward leading the goalscoring and assist charts.

A record-breaking five assists on Saturday saw Inter Miami secure a huge 6-2 win against the New York Red Bulls, with Luis Suarez noting that he saw something in Messi that even he hasn’t seen before on the soccer pitch.

And league legend Kljestan has now noted what Messi is thinking whilst on the field for Inter Miami.

Messi solely focused on scoring or assisting for Inter Miami

Speaking on MLS Wrap-Up, the former USA international was full of praise of how zoned in Messi is on solely wanting to score or assist his Inter Miami teammates, a mentality that has pushed the Argentine on to become the greatest of all time.

Indeed, whilst Messi has shown this season to care more than just winning games with his new team, it’s clear that the forward’s main objective in any match against any opposition is to score goals or to create them, and results in recent weeks have been outstanding because of this.

Kljestan said about Messi’s approach to soccer at Inter Miami: “He’s not bothered by referees, he’s not bothered by teammates who lose the ball, he’s not bothered by a bad call or the coach changing something.

“He’s focused on one thing and that’s getting the ball in the back of the net or setting up a teammate to score, so when they go down one goal or two, I don’t think he’s bothered because he knows he’s going to get those chances, and ultimately between him and Suarez, they can bury other teams.”

Messi’s mentality is leading to historic MLS results

At 36-years-old, Messi is at a stage in his career where the attacker can only do so much given his physicality, yet the Argentine’s mentality is still leading Inter Miami to historic results in MLS.

Messi has been at the cornerstone of every immense performance for the Herons this season, and the attacker is showing no sign of slowing down at all with Inter Miami the in-form team in the division.

Whilst fans would like to see Messi do more away from scoring and assisting, this is simply not what the attacker is tasked to do, and the results and performances speak for themselves.
