What Adam Wharton was seen doing with JP Mateta during 4-0 Crystal Palace win on Monday

After Crystal Palace thrashed Manchester United on Monday night, a moment from Adam Wharton has emerged as a talking point.

For Oliver Glasner and his flying Eagles side, Monday night at Selhurst Park will have been better than they could’ve dreamt up the night before.

Crystal Palace made Manchester United look amateur during a 4-0 thrashing under the lights as Michael Olise picked up most of the plaudits against the side who’ve been linked with him this summer.

The coveted Frenchman scored a brace while Jean-Philippe Mateta and Tyrick Mitchell also got themselves on the scoresheet.

In the end, the visitors had no defence against the brilliance of Olise and his teammates. But it’s a moment from Adam Wharton which has caught the eye.

Wharton seems to be instructing Mateta how to play for Crystal Palace

Amid all the positives to take out of the 4-0 win over United, one has flown under the radar and relates to Wharton’s leadership.

On Tuesday, The Independent reported that at half-time in the game, Wharton was spotted talking with Mateta.

The interesting part comes as he appeared to be giving the red-hot striker a number of instructions.

This is exciting to see as despite Wharton being only 20, he’s clearly in possession of a highly valued trait which is leadership qualities as he’s able to advise far more experienced players.

His quality has been recognised by his teammates as it’s unlikely Mateta would take instructions from him if he didn’t rate him.

Wharton put in a performance beyond his years against Man United

The past five games have been so incredible that it’s easy to forget that Wharton hasn’t even been at the club six months and already he looks like a future captain.

The number 20 has quickly become an iconic one in the middle of the park, with shouts for an England call-up at this summer’s Euros now growing louder than ever.

Wharton has looked at times the oldest player on the pitch in terms of his mentality and the calmness he brings to the team, while his physical qualities have also been hugely beneficial.

He made light work of the United midfield and also made a strong case in the Kobbie Mainoo comparisons going forward.

A player who plays beyond his years every time he steps out and is a wonderful midfield talent that Palace are ultimately lucky to have.
