Report: Man United could now move for manager who was sacked by Tottenham if Erik ten Hag leaves

Manchester United have been linked with a shock move for a former Tottenham Hotspur manager.

Erik ten Hag is facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford and the pressure was ramped up once again on Monday evening.

The Dutchman watched on as his side were thrashed 4-0 at Crystal Palace, raising further doubts over his future at Manchester United.

Ajax are monitoring Ten Hag’s situation in Manchester, with a decision yet to be made by the United hierarchy.

A host of names have already been linked with a move to United, including the likes of Gareth Southgate, Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi and Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel.

But a fresh name has been thrown into the mix, with Italian outlet Rai News linking a former Tottenham manager with a move to United.

United could move for Antonio Conte

The outlet reports that Antonio Conte remains on the market after the Italian was sacked by Tottenham back in Match last year.

Conte was dismissed by Spurs following a stunning rant after a 3-3 draw at Southampton last season.

The Italian had guided Tottenham to a top-four finish the season before but the wheels well and truly fell off towards the end of his tenure.

Now, Rai News claims that despite recent links to Chelsea, United could yet come into the conversation for Conte.

Of course, the former Spurs boss has also been heavily linked with a move to Napoli.

Conte move seems unlikely

United have already been linked with a move for Conte in the past but opted against a swoop for the Italian.

That resulted in Ralf Rangnick taking temporary charge after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s exit, with Ten Hag landing the job in 2022.

Despite Conte boasting a brilliant CV having picked up league titles in Italy and England, it would be a surprise to see United move for the former Chelsea boss.

There have been groans over the style of football under Ten Hag this season and Conte is unlikely to improve things on that end.

Should INEOS opt to go in a different direction this summer, it would certainly raise a few eyebrows if they turned to Conte, particularly off the back of a tough last season at Tottenham.
