'He did great': Sean Dyche thrilled with 19-year-old Everton youngster who's started just once this season

Sean Dyche has heaped praise on an Everton player who has started just once during the 2023/24 Premier League season.

The Everton boss has enjoyed an excellent couple of weeks after seeing his side secure Premier League survival. Four wins in six matches have turned the season on its head and even brought a tinge of optimism back to Goodison Park.

Two fixtures remain against Sheffield United and Arsenal, and the Everton boss could look to ring the changes, particularly against the already relegated Blades.

Youssef Chermiti has had to make do with fleeting substitute appearances during his first season at Goodison Park.

The 19-year-old striker was signed from Sporting Lisbon last summer in a deal believed to be in the region of £15million.

Chermiti has featured in Everton’s previous two fixtures and was slammed by Jamie Carragher during the Toffees’ 1-1 draw with Luton Town.

Despite starting just one top-flight fixture, Dyche has expressed his delight at the striker’s development.

Dyche told Everton’s official website: “There are a lot of players I am super pleased with here – the young players. You know, it is not just Jarrad, Jimmy (Garner) has had a good season.

“Myko continues to develop. Youssef (Chermiti), I thought he did great last week and did well again when he came on, he is adapting.

“There is a lot of challenges for these players, but they are beginning to come together as a group and we have seen that. And it has rewarded us, of course, and the fans.”

Everton could see the best of Youssef Chermiti next season

Evertonians could be set to see the best of Chermiti next season. He was never going to come in and hit the ground running at such a tender age.

We’ve seen on many occasions some of Europe’s best players struggle to adapt to life in England’s top flight.

Dyche has managed the Portuguese youngster perfectly by introducing him slightly later on in games, where he could have more success.

The former Burnley boss will probably be quite content with his forward options at the moment.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto can battle it out for a starting spot, with Chermiti in the squad as a left-field choice.

After a season at Goodison Park, the 2024/25 season could be a breakout year for the former Sporting Lisbon youngster.
