'Incredible': Chris Powell claims Sheffield Wednesday man is surely destined for the Premier League

One ‘incredible’ Sheffield Wednesday man has been tipped to reach the Premier League.

Sheffield Wednesday pulled off a rather miraculous escape from the relegation zone, as they confirmed their Championship status at the weekend.

The Owls hadn’t been out of the bottom three since the opening day before climbing their way out with a win over Blackburn Rovers a few weeks ago.

They have now won three on the bounce, and theirfinal day victory over Sunderland meant they finished three points above the relegation zone.

The Yorkshire outfit has come under huge praise, with the likes of Josh Windass and Barry Bannan hailed for their impact on the latter stages of the campaign.

While it has been a spectacular turnaround from the players, the one man who has been awarded so much credit for his contribution is Danny Rohl.

The German joined Wednesday in October when they were seven points adrift, and has given supporters and the team the chance to enjoy going to Hillsborough again after a really tough start.

Rohl was heavily linked with a move to Sunderland in recent weeks and it was expected that he would surely not take the drop down to League One, however Wednesday staying up has now led to ‘positive’ talks over his future.

Chris Powell tips key man to reach the ‘Premier League or Bundesliga’

While he could well stay in Yorkshire this summer, he could still be on track for a much bigger job in the future.

Speaking to The Star, assistant coach Chris Powell tipped Rohl to reach the top division.

“The club has got under my skin, and I love working with him,” Powell said.

“I think he’s potentially going to be a very, very good manager higher up – whether that’s the Premier League or Bundesliga, whatever he wants to do. I think he’s got the makings of that.“

“There’s a long way to go for him, a lot of learning which will always continue. We’ll see where it lies and where we get to, but one thing is for sure – part one is completed, staying in the Championship. Part two is now about trying to progress… I really hope that we can continue on this great journey that we’ve had, these seven months have been incredible.”

How long can fans expect Danny Rohl to stick around?

Danny Rohl really hasn’t given much indication as to where he sees his future, but he certainly seems like a very loyal coach.

The 35-year-old will know how much potential Wednesday has, and it would actually be surprising if they failed to get at least a top-half finish next term.

Now that the Owls have avoided relegation and can kickstart this new era, Rohl could well stick around until he feels like he has done as much as he can.

But there is surely no doubt that he will one day manage in the Premier League or the Bundesliga, and his previous spells with the likes of Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig will help that.

It is not something that Wednesday will be able to prevent at that point, though there is always the dream that perhaps he could reach the English top division with the Owls instead.
