'His preference is England': Arsenal named as possible destination for 'one of the best strikers in the world'

Arsenal are likely to get stuck into the summer transfer window as Mikel Arteta looks to bring in the missing pieces of the jigsaw.

The Gunners have been solid this season and are still firmly in the picture to win their first Premier League title since 2004.

However, Arsenal could certainly make some more additions to ensure their squad can go the distance in both the Premier League and the Champions League next year and beyond.

The Gunners’ front line is an area that could do with strengthening, as they are currently missing an out-and-out No. 9.

Plenty of centre-forwards have been linked with a move to Arsenal, including one of the very best strikers in the world right now.

The player in question is Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, and Italian football journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has now provided an update involving the striker and the Gunners.

What has Gianluca Di Marzio said about Arsenal and Victor Osimhen?

Di Marzio told Sky Italia, in quotes relayed by CalcioNapoli24: “The possibility of playing in France again does not excite Osimhen, who has already played there with Lille.

“Clearly playing with PSG is different because you can play games like tonight’s Champions League semi-final, but his preference is England.

“Arsenal and Chelsea are the two teams that could take Osimhen and as long as that possibility is open he will wait.”

However, Di Marzio did also suggest that the Blues may just have an advantage over the Gunners with regards to signing the Nigeria international.

“Napoli’s new general manager Manna is talking to Chelsea to assess whether there is room to close the deal and to include (Romelu) Lukaku in the possible Osimhen deal,” he continued.

“The deal would be similar to the one that was being done last summer between the English club and Juventus for Vlahovic.

“I am not so sure that Osimhen will eventually play in France with PSG. He often goes to England when he has a day off and enjoys being there with his friends.”

Victor Osimhen would be a major statement signing for Arsenal

Osimhen has been a revelation for Napoli since his reported £70million move from Lille back in 2020.

This season, the 25-year-old signed a new contract at Napoli with a reported £113million release clause, but this hasn’t stopped speculation from doing the rounds.

Osimhen has clearly shown that he is “one of the best strikers in the world”, as Joao Cancelo said to Gazzetta dello Sport, via Il Napolista, earlier this year.

He’d be a real coup for Arsenal, but they’ll have some serious competition on their hands in the shape of Chelsea and other elites.
