Manchester United boss now wants to bring 'one of the best right-backs in the world' to Old Trafford - journalist

Manchester United are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window as a new-look Red Devils board looks to overhaul things at Old Trafford.

Sim Jim Ratcliffe has already made big changes at boardroom level in order to help reshape Manchester United for next season and beyond.

Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada are set to join as sporting director and CEO respectively, while Dan Ashworth is being eyed as technical director.

The expectation is that Manchester United will be busy in the transfer market, with big incomings and major outgoings predicted.

One player the Red Devils have been linked with has been deemed “one of the best right-backs in the world”, and Erik ten Hag is said to be a “big admirer”.

The player in question is Denzel Dumfries, whose future at Inter Milan remains somewhat uncertain, with his contract expiring in 2025.

Gazzetta dello Sport recently claimed that the 28-year-old is keen on a potential switch to Manchester United.

Now, Dean Jones has provided an update on GiveMeSport regarding the Red Devils and Dumfries.

What has Dean Jones said about Manchester United and Denzel Dumfries?

Jones said: “There is a lot of talk around Manchester United’s move for Denzel Dumfries gathering pace, but it would need Aaron Wan-Bissaka to leave really. Otherwise, there is no room for him.

“Diogo Dalot is really valued but, of course, Dumfries is more of a wing-back and is great at attacking, so that is also something to bear in mind.

“He is still due to have more talks at Inter about potentially improving his contract at the club.

“If he can’t do that, maybe this move to Manchester United opens up a bit more. I was told that Erik ten Hag is a big admirer.”

Denzel Dumfries would be a solid signing for Manchester United

Denzel Dumfries is a quality player who has just won the Serie A title with Inter and has also won two Italian Cups and three Italian Super Cups.

At 28 years of age, he’s very much in his prime, and according to Gazzetta, he could cost as little as £22million.

Bayer Leverkusen and Netherlands ace Jeremie Frimpong has previously lauded the reported Manchester United target.

“I will play wherever the coach wants, both with Leverkusen and the Dutch national team whenever I get the chance,” he told Ziggo Sport, via FcInterNews, in February.

“This is what every footballer wants. However, I’m aware of the strong competition in the national team.

“I knew it would be difficult for me, because Denzel Dumfries is one of the best right-backs in the world.”

Let’s see what happens in the coming months. Admittedly, it looks as though this move could depend on Ten Hag staying put at Manchester United.
