Sunderland fans have plenty to say about Liam Rosenior following shock Hull City exit

Sunderland may soon have a new managerial candidate in Liam Rosenior, who was brutally sacked by Hull City on Tuesday.

Rosenior guided Hull City to a 7th place finish in the 2023/24 season, missing out on a spot in the Championship play-offs after losing to Plymouth Argyle on the final day.

Since his exit, there’s been inevitable speculation linking him with the still-vacant Sunderland job.

Sunderland owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus is thought to be biding his time before hiring a new manager, with names linked with the job seemingly becoming fewer and fewer.

Will Still remains firmly in the picture following his Reims exit at the start of this month whilst Rene Maric is being closely linked too.

BBC pundit Marco Gabbiadini though thinks that Rosenior would be a better fit for Sunderland than the likes of Still, and the former Black Cats striker also thinks Rosenior would be keen on the job.

Sunderland fans react to Liam Rosenior speculation

Needless to say, Sunderland fans have had plenty to say about Rosenior and the possibility of him becoming their next manager.

And there’s a lot of fans who have warmed to the idea of Rosenior taking charge of Sunderland this summer.

Rosenior earned a solid reputation for playing attractive and effective football at Hull, with his team often going toe-to-toe with the league’s big-hitters.

Before that defeat vs Plymouth, Hull drew with Leicester City and beat Coventry City in the Championship.

But many also think that Rosenior underachieved with the money spent at Hull City, and with some of the players he had at his disposal; one being Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho who Hull signed on loan in January.

Here’s what some Sunderland fans online have had to say about Rosenior…

@DanMeister1234: Liam Rosenior becoming available could be a game changer. Would happily take him at Sunderland!

@____Pingu____: Find it mental the amount of people who want Rosenior at #SAFC. He massively underachieved with the squad he had at Hull and his football is as dull as dishwater.

@arthurs333: Well I’d take Liam Rosenior in a heartbeat, I really rate him as a manager/coach.

@Fantanafest73: I’m curious. Some of our fans have kicked off about not spending enough to compete with the likes of Hull etc. Rosenior couldn’t get them into the playoffs after spending a mint, was sacked and now some of our fans want him at #SAFC please make it make sense

@SierraLeeholme: Can’t believe he’s been given the boot tbh! Go and get Liam Rosenior!!

@SAFCFANSVIEW: Liam Rosenior would be a very positive appointment for us! The reaction of #HCFC supporters alone tells you all you need to know.

@Parkersafc: No doubt there’ll be Sunderland links for Liam Rosenior now. The fact he couldn’t finish top 6 with that group of players he had at Hull since January, rules him out for me.
