Luis Suarez has already shown Liverpool what they need to do with Darwin Nunez this summer - opinion

Luis Suarez has already shown the way in what Darwin Nunez needs to do at Liverpool next season.

As soon as Darwin Nunez arrived, the comparisons to Luis Suarez were inevitable at Liverpool. The two strikers are compatriots and they are both exciting to watch.

They can be erratic in their behaviour and they aren’t always fully composed on the pitch. But on the flip side, they bring with them an infectious energy, and that’s something that the Anfield crowd appreciates.

For Nunez, his first two years at Liverpool have been difficult. He’s shown promise, but he hasn’t quite exploded just yet.

But there is a way for him to redeem his career by doing what Luis Suarez did during his time at Liverpool.

Why Darwin Nunez needs to follow Luis Suarez’s footsteps at Liverpool

When you look back at Luis Suarez’s career in a Liverpool shirt, many remember his final two seasons at Anfield.

However, a lot of people seem to forget that during his first two seasons at the club, there were question marks about whether he could become a prolific striker in the Premier League.

In his second season, Suarez scored only 11 goals for Liverpool in the league, and 17 in all competitions. Nunez is currently on 11 league goals in his second season as well and has 18 in all competitions.

What changed in Luis Suarez’s last two seasons at Liverpool?

In his third and fourth season at the club, Suarez scored 23 goals and then 31 goals. He became a more mature forward and definitely a lot more composed in front of goal.

Similarly to Nunez, he was still relatively young when he first arrived at Liverpool. In his second season, just like Nunez, he was only 24-years-old.

But he grew as a player, and when Brendan Rodgers arrived in his third season at the club, Suarez started to really thrive under his attacking style of football.

There will be a similar change at Liverpool this summer with Arne Slot coming in, and Nunez has everything to follow in Suarez’s footsteps. The path has already been laid.
