Tyrone Mings sends 4-word message to Emi Buendia after his return to Aston Villa training

Aston Villa forward Emi Buendia posted a heartfelt update on his recovery as the Argentine returned to training at Bodymoor Heath, seeing a host of his teammates send messages.

It’s been an agonising season for Emi Buendia, who suffered a gruelling ACL injury in training just days before the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

The Argentine was in searing form in pre-season and looked to be the sharpest he’s been since arriving at Villa Park back in 2021, making the severity and timing of his injury even harder to process.

Having undergone surgery, rehab and all of the psychological tests that come with sustaining a long-term blow, the end is in sight for Buendia, who returned to training at Bodymoor Heath alongside his teammates yesterday.

The Aston Villa social media team shared snaps and videos of the 27-year-old rejoining the squad, with the former Championship star also taking to his own social media channels to express his delight.

Aston Villa players react to Emi Buendia return to training

On Instagram, Buendia posted a photo of him at Bodymoor Heath with a heartfelt caption explaining just how long he’s been isolated from full training.

The versatile attacker wrote, ‘272. It’s been a long wait, and at times very hard, but happy to be able to be with my colleagues again 272 days later. Continue enjoying the road.’

Many flooded his comments to wish him well, including a host of Aston Villa players, including Tyrone Mings, who himself has been combatting an ACL injury throughout the campaign.

The Englishman commented, ‘Great to see bro’, as he awaits the chance to return to Bodymoor with his teammates after his season ended just 31 minutes into the opening day.

Other players from the squad to comment were Morgan Rogers, Emi Martinez, John McGinn, Lucas Digne and Jacob Ramsey.

Aston Villa must be cautious with Emi Buendia

Despite taking the first step to return to action, the season has ended for the Argentine, who painfully missed the entire campaign after such an electrifying pre-season.

There are just two games left to play in Villa’s 2023/24 Premier League season, with a maximum of two European games remaining, should the Villans beat Olympiacos on Thursday.

Going into pre-season, it will be interesting to see how Unai Emery handles the return of Buendia, who despite missing the full footballing calendar this year, is close to being back at the ideal time.

A strong pre-season and time to rest will be pivotal to the former Norwich City sensation, with plenty of time to prepare and build strength ahead of what is poised to be a thrilling 2024/25 chapter.

For now, everyone associated with Villa will be smiling from ear to ear to see Buendia’s long-awaited return to Bodymoor Heath after a truly draining year.
