Report: There is now a free agent Newcastle want to sign even more than Lloyd Kelly this summer

There is now a free agent Newcastle want to sign even more than Bournemouth No.5 Lloyd Kelly this summer.

Earlier this week, it was said that the Magpies have agreed a deal to sign the 25-year-old on a free transfer when his contract with the Cherries expires this summer.

That was according to Foot Mercato.

Now, however – according to the Telegraph – there is another free agent Newcastle view as more attractive than Lloyd Kelly

The Telegraph now claim that sources close to Newcastle have played down talk of Kelly moving to Tyneside, suggesting those reports in France were wide of the mark.

This latest update also states that Newcastle view Fulham No.4 Tosin Adarabioyo – who becomes a free agent this summer too – as a more attractive signing, due to the fact he plays on the right side of defence.

Kelly is contrastingly a left sided centre-back who can also play at left-back, a role Eddie Howe is not as desperate to fill.

Having said that, the Telegraph do make a point of mentioning that Bournemouth’s Bristol-born defender is still on a shortlist of targets for Newcastle, with Adarabioyo just viewed as slightly more attractive.

The Fulham star has played a key role this season, making 20 Premier League appearances and scoring two goals as the Cottagers sit 13th in England’s top-flight.

Magpies could miss out anyway

Newcastle may end up signing Kelly anyway, as there is plenty of competition for Adarabioyo’s signature.

The Evening Standard believe Liverpool could make a move to sign the Manchester-born defender, with Joel Matip expected to leave when his contract expires this summer.

Furthermore, respected journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Tottenham are still keen to sign Adarabioyo.

Therefore, Newcastle certainly don’t have a free run at signing the 26-year-old this summer, to say the least.
