Italian report shares Julen Lopetegui twist amidst West Ham uncertainty

A Julen Lopetegui twist has emerged today, as West Ham United move into position to appoint the Spaniard as our new manager.

Julen Lopetegui appears to be West Ham bound, with David Moyes set to leave the club after four-and-a-half years in charge.

The 57-year-old Spaniard is apparently already lining up a move for Youssef En-Nesyri as his first signing for the Hammers.

Lopetegui has been out of work since leaving Wolves back in August, and he boasts a really impressive managerial CV.

He has spent time in charge of Real Madrid, Porto, Sevilla and the Spain national team. Whilst a pragmatist by nature, Lopetegui likes his teams to build up from the back with intricate patterns of play.

The football will certainly be a big change to what was served up by Moyes.

I don’t think there’s any doubt that the former Wolves boss will be our new manager.

And now a further update has been provided about the contract that awaits him at the London Stadium…

Julen Lopetegui twist amidst West Ham uncertainty

It was reported just a few days ago that the Hammers were ready to offer the Spaniard a three-year deal worth £4.3 million per year.

However, it appears as though that may well not be the case.

According to Fanta Calcio, Lopetegui will be handed a two-year contract by West Ham – one worth £3.45 million per year.

If that really is true, I think it’s absolutely perfect for us. It means that if Lopetegui doesn’t work out, it won’t be too costly to move him on from his contract.

However, if he gets us flying, we can renegotiate with him in the summer of 2025 and extend his deal.

I do have my doubts that Lopetegui would accept a two-year contract offer from West Ham. I reckon it will end up being a three-year deal at least, but we shall wait and see…
