Chelsea reportedly could save West Ham from making a big mistake by appointing 59-yo has-been

So, it seems like Chelsea appointing a fairly big-name manager this summer could save West Ham United from making what I think would be a big mistake.

West Ham are said to be in the midst of the process of appointing a new manager, and Chelsea have just entered the race for one of our alleged targets.

It’s no surprise that David Moyes has run out of time at the London Stadium – he has performed terribly in his role as Hammers boss this season.

Three Premier League wins in 2024 have led to the West Ham board hunting for a replacement for Moyes, with the likes of Paulo Fonseca, Julen Lopetegui and Ruben Amorim touted as potential candidates for the job.

The Hammers have fallen down from sixth spot in the Premier League table to ninth, just five points clear of 12th placed Brighton. And the Seagulls have a game in hand on us!

With the Scot heading out of the London Stadium, the big question that remains is who will replace him? There is one candidate in particular who I’m not too keen on, but Chelsea could be about to save us from making the mistake of appointing him…

So, if the latest round of reports are to be believed, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly could be looking to replace Mauricio Pochettino.

According to a report from Christian Falk via Caughtoffside, Chelsea are trying to lure Hansi Flick to Stamford Bridge – a man who West Ham are apparently trying to bring to the London Stadium to replace Moyes.

Don’t get me wrong, Flick is a decent manager, but he’s not the man we need to usher us on into a new era of success.

He’s 59, and is hardly an innovative, fresh thinking young coach.

The German enjoyed a very good spell with Bayern Munich, having won the league twice and the Champions League.

However, they were one of the best two or three teams on the planet then, and most managers would have guided them to glory.

I really want a young, ambitious and innovative coach to take over from Moyes in the summer. Flick really doesn’t fit into that category as far as I’m concerned.

And Chelsea appointing the German manager would do us a huge favour.
