‘I honestly believe that’: Pundit says Arsenal have a player who’s been better than Phil Foden

The end of the Premier League season is upon us and it’s almost time to crown Player of the Year.

The FWA award has been won by Phil Foden this time around, but the PFA award is yet to be decided.

Speaking on The Game Football Podcast, Gregor Robertson has been discussing who he believes should win Player of the Year this term, and he stated that Declan Rice would be a worthy recipient ahead of Foden.

Declan Rice should be Player of the Year

Robertson spoke about the Arsenal midfielder being Player of the Year.

“I would like to speak about Player of the Year after Phil Foden won the award, and you have changed your mind, you said Rodri a few weeks ago?” Robertson was asked.

“I think there are more talented players, and talent outweighs influence on games when we have these conversations,” Robertson said.

“Someone like Phil Foden who is easy on the eye or is a goalscorer, but there are others who exert just as much influence and Declan Rice is one of those.

“You heard Joe Cole on TNT comparing him to Steven Gerrard, Roy Keane, Patrick Vieira, earlier this season that seemed outlandish, but there’s truth in that, he could become that figure for Arsenal. I honestly believe that.”

Player of the Year is so competitive this time

Robertson says that Rice should be Player of the Year, and there’s certainly a case to make.

However, there are more than a few players who’d have something to say about that.

The likes of Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden, Martin Odegaard and even Erling Haaland all have strong cases to make, as does Cole Palmer.

The reality is that we’ve seen a lot of quality in the Premier League this year, and there have been a number of standout players, including Rice.

Declan Rice would certainly be a worthy Player of the Year winner.
