‘More chance of him coming’: £51m striker is more likely to sign for Arsenal than Ivan Toney - journalist

Arsenal have been linked with so many strikers heading into this summer.

The Gunners are clearly looking for a new centre-forward, and many options have been touted.

Speaking on KS1TV, Steve Kay has been discussing Arsenal and their interest in Joshua Zirkzee.

It was reported last week that Arsenal are prepared to pay £51m for Zirkzee, and while Kay hasn’t heard anything that concrete, he’s stated that he’s more likely to join Arsenal than the likes of Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen.

Kay shared what he knows about Zirkzee.

“Only that there is an interest and they like him (Zirkzee). Nothing concrete my end. They have scouted him and they have looked at him. I wouldn’t say he was a guarantee, but you probably have more chance of him coming than a lot of others who have been mentioned,” Kay said.

“The Toney ship has gone, I’d never heard much about Toney, the only article I did about Toney was at the end of the window, I was told Brentford would sit down with Arsenal at £55m. Nothing came of that.

“Osimhen, again, I don’t think he’s the right fit for Arsenal.”

Ivan Toney is a better fit for Arsenal

Zirkzee may be more likely to sign for Arsenal this summer, but there’s a strong case to make that Toney would be the better fit, despite recent questions about his personality.

The England international is proven at Premier League level over a substantial period of time, while Zirkzee has only had one truly outstanding season in his career over in Italy.

Arsenal ought to know better than most clubs how important Premier League experience is, and while Zirkzee has plenty of potential, Toney may well be the safer bet.

It will be interesting to see which striker Arsenal sign this summer.
