Michael Edwards has an obvious 13-goal solution to key Liverpool issue this summer - opinion

Michael Edwards should be looking at a 13-goal forward who could solve a key issue for Liverpool this summer.

One area where Liverpool are likely to strengthen this summer is attacker. The Reds will need to bolster their options, with the club’s likely new manager, Arne Slot, having a preference for exciting attacking play and a lot of options in attack.

In Slot’s system, Liverpool will want to introduce wingers who are excellent in one vs one situations and who can make an impact in the final third.

Currently, there are a few options in the squad for that role. But with Luis Diaz’s future up in the air, Michael Edwards will have to look at alternative solutions as well.

Why Bryan Mbeumo is the perfect solution to Liverpool’s attack

Given the way Slot likes to play, Michael Edwards and the data team at Liverpool will mostly be focusing on output when it comes to potential recruitments.

And when it comes to output and offensive threat in the final third, one of the players who profiles the best for Liverpool is Bryan Mbeumo.

He has 13 goal contributions this season, but his underlying numbers this season are even more impressive.

As per Wyscout, he has averaged over 0.40 xG per 90 minutes and 0.25 xA per 90 minutes. This puts him on a short list of wide players in Europe’s top five leagues, alongside Mohamed Salah in terms of productivity in front of goal.

Why Bryan Mbeumo is the perfect Edwards signing

Mbeumo ticks the profile in terms of what Michael Edwards looks for. He is going under the radar with his activity in front of goal.

He is still only 24-years-old, which is quite young for an attacker. On top of that, he is at a club in Brentford where Liverpool will not be priced out of a move to sign him.

Brentford have shown in the past that they are willing to negotiate at reasonable prices with Premier League and European clubs.

Which is why bringing in Mbeumo to increase Liverpool’s productivity and solve the club’s lack of composure in front of goal, makes complete sense this summer.
