N.J. child care worker charged with assaulting toddler

UPDATE: N.J. childcare worker fractured toddler’s skull, authorities say

A child care worker in Mount Olive has been charged with assaulting a 16-month-old in her care, authorities said.

Christina Susco, 38, assaulted the child on March 25 at Mount Olive Child Care & Learning Center, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday.

Susco, of the Budd Lake section of town, is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated assault. Additional information about the incident was not immediately available.

She has been fired from her job at the day care, Executive Director Gail Reuther told NJ Advance Media.

“This is a unique and distressing incident, and we are shocked and embarrassed that this occurred at our Center, which has a 47-year history of service to the community and quality services to the children and families,” Reuther said in a written statement.

”Our staff members are well-trained, and Christina knew the rules and procedures. We have cameras and video monitoring throughout the school, and we also provide frequent supervision of all staff. Please be assured that we took immediate action to ensure the safety and care for all the children at the Center.”

Susco has been released from the Morris County jail with conditions ahead of a pre-indictment conference scheduled for June 17, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office said. Her public defender couldn’t immediately be reached.

Susco is the young infant caregiver at the facility, according to her biography on the website.
