Brendan Rodgers tells the Celtic support what his side ‘need’ to thrive in Glasgow Derby

Celtic fans will be nervously anticipating the arrival of Saturday’s Glasgow Derby against Rangers, which could have major ramifications regarding the Scottish Premiership title race.

Should Brendan Rodgers’ men secure victory, they would be all but certain to secure a third league title in quick succession.

The gap would stand at six points with two games left to play and a superior goal difference, which would be more or less insurmountable for the Hoops’ city rivals.

Last weekend, Celtic saw off Heart of Midlothian comfortably in front of a raucous atmosphere at Parkhead, where every last tackle and interception was cheered like a goal, not least Callum McGregor’s brilliant tracking back to dispossess Kenneth Vargas and Cammy Devlin.

Rodgers’ men will surely receive an even better reception this time, with so much at stake on a day that could be the defining moment of his second spell back in Glasgow’s east end.

The Irishman has remained stoic through the trials and tribulations he faced earlier in the campaign. Truthfully, it doesn’t matter how you go about winning league titles, as the Celtic fans will not care a jot if he manages to push his side over the line.

Brendan Rodgers urges Celtic fans to bring the noise

With the occasion at play, Celtic supporters won’t need any encouragement to back their side to the hilt against Rangers on Saturday afternoon.

Either way, Rodgers has now issued a rallying call to those in attendance at Parkhead, urging fans to galvanise their side and push them on to three points against Philippe Clement’s outfit during his latest interview with Celtic TV.

He stated: “The crowd in the Hearts game were brilliant for us. I mentioned before about their importance at this stage in the season and they’re getting behind the football aspect of the club and the team. We see that, and you see that emotion just rolled down from the stands right onto the pitch.

“You see what it gives the players and how they respond to that. We’ll need that exactly the same at the weekend and I know we’ll get that because I think the supporters are happy now with what they’re seeing in the team and now we have to play our part in that.

“But it should be a great occasion, and I’m really looking forward to it.”

From all four corners of the world, Celtic fans will be excited about what Saturday could have in store in the latest instalment of the Glasgow Derby.

For some, this one may mean more than usual owing to the permutations in either direction, signifying the players need all the backing they can get when they step out onto the pitch.
