'Player of the Year by a mile': BBC pundit wowed by Nottingham Forest player with 14 goal contributions

BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks has now given praise to a Nottingham Forest player ahead of this weekend’s game with Chelsea.

The Reds are agonisingly close to surviving relegation from the Premier League this season.

Forest have a three-point gap to Luton who are three points adrift of safety – with Burnley five points adrift of the Reds.

With two games to play the Reds are close and with one more win they will guarantee their safety for another year – barring a mathematical miracle.

After beating Sheffield United 3-1 at Bramall Lane, Crooks hailed Callum Hudson-Odoi and Willy Boly by naming them in his Team of the Week.

However, one man did earn an honourable mention from the pundit and he’s so important to the Forest cause.

Garth Crooks shares what he loves about Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White

The Forest playmaker has been a very good addition since he signed from Wolves for an initial £25 million in the summer of 2022.

Gibbs-White has continued to grow as a player this season and now Crooks has delivered some praise to the Forest star.

After his heroics he used his BBC Sport column to rave about Gibbs-White and clearly, he’s a big fan of the 24-year-old.

He said: “I said recently that Forest must, above all else, keep this player fit if they’re serious about avoiding relegation.

“Having seen him against Sheffield United I have not changed my position.

“His enthusiasm and desire to stay in the Premier League is patently obvious. He’s been Forest’s Player of the Year by a mile.”

Forest have to keep star man this summer

It’s going to be extremely difficult for Forest to keep hold of Gibbs-White this summer but they have to try.

In order to comply with financial fair play constraints once again, Forest will need to sell at least one of their star players.

All eyes will be on Gibbs-White and Murillo and Forest have to weigh up what to do.

In our view, Gibbs-White would be the more difficult player to replace and his creativity has seen him score six goals and claim eight assists this season.

Who Scored shows that Gibbs-White is top of the Forest charts for key passes and dribbles this season and replacing that would be hard.

Murillo has only been with the Reds for a year and as good as he is, replacing a central defender is likely to be cheaper.

Gibbs-White has more learning to do just yet and hopefully, he’s the one player that Forest can keep hold of.
