£28m West Ham flop could be given lifeline by Lopetegui, he tried to sign him in 2022

One West Ham United flop could be given a big second chance at the London Stadium by Julen Lopetegui.

The West Ham fans should be hoping for a long and prosperous era of success under the guidance of Julen Lopetegui.

The 57-year-old ex-Wolves boss is set to be handed a two-year contract by the Hammers owners.

It will be nice to see some proper football played again, rather than the deep block that David Moyes favoured.

There are those who are suggesting that the football implemented by Lopetegui is no different to Moyes’s.

I was one of those people at the beginning. However, after more in-depth research, I’m fully on board with the impending appointment of the Spaniard.

And there is one thing in particular about Lopetegui’s preferred playing style that might just open the door to one Hammer who has really struggled recently…

West Ham flop could be given lifeline by Julen Lopetegui

There are numerous West Ham players who will be hoping to be given more chances when the Spaniard takes over from Moyes.

The Scot’s main fault was trusting his favourites too much, whilst ignoring the fringe players.

However, there is one fringe player who hasn’t deserved a proper chance this season.

He has been so poor every single time he has played for us over the past 12 months.

Now though, with Lopetegui’s playing style varying from Moyes’s, he may well be given a lifeline…

Nayef Aguerd has been absolutely awful for the Hammers, since joining us from Rennes in a £28 million deal in the summer of 2022 (DailyMail).

Interestingly, Lopetegui tried to sign the 28-year-old before he joined us, while his was in charge of Sevilla.

The Morocco international has been a terrible fit for the Hammers and seems to be painfully ill-suited to Premier League football.

However, could he really blossom in a side that plays with a high back-line, and likes to control possession, with an emphasis placed on building up from the back?

I’m not sure whether that’s just wishful thinking, but one thing that is certain is that he will have more of a chance to impress under Lopetegui at West Ham than he did during Moyes’s tenure.
