Americans are just learning that they’ve been squirting ketchup wrong their whole lives

While it might have been around for hundreds of years, you’ve likely been squirting ketchup the wrong way this entire time.

Shockingly, ketchup (Or red sauce to the Brits) was invented in 1812 by American horticulturist James Mease. Though the recipe has somewhat warped over the years, having appeared with strange inclusions like oysters and anchovies, the tomato-based condiment has solidified itself as America’s favorite condiment in recent years. There’s simply nothing we want to dip our food in more.

Why you are squirting ketchup wrong

This latest genius hack was brought to TikTok’s attention by Jordan (@jordan_the_stallion8), who some might recognize from his numerous viral videos. In the clip, Jordan stitched a video showing a man with a unique way to squirt his ketchup.

Giving some context to his wealth of knowledge, Jordan explained that he wrote a paper on bottle development for college. Through his research, he learned that the squeezy bottle we know and love was not introduced until 2001.

“The original glass ketchup bottle was made in 1890 but then they made a squeezable ketchup bottle in 1983,” he said. “But it was still difficult to get ketchup out of the bottle, so, they made what’s called an ‘upside down container’ or a ‘gravity container’ which was in 2001.”

Instead of squeezing the center of the bottle to push the ketchup out the “wrong” way, Jordan suggested squeezing the sides of the bottle to create a makeshift vacuum. The pressure naturally pulls the condiment through without the need for excessive pressure.

Jordan’s followers were stunned

Most of Jordan’s followers were shocked to learn the hidden truth, though some argued that Jordan’s method was a “hack” and not the so-called “right” way to do it.

One person wrote: “At this point, I’m convinced this guy is either 1,000 years old, a part of the government, or just some kind of fun facts God.”

“If you squeeze the sides then close the cap you make a ketchup grenade for the next user,” another person suggested.

A third said: “It baffles me how companies spend millions of dollars on developing this kind of stuff and then TELL NO ONE!”
