Report: 'Magic' £30m forward wanted by Tottenham has made U-turn, doesn't fancy England move now

Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window as Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his ranks further.

A season which promised so much for Spurs after a few months is now fizzling out, and the Lilywhites will now need to get back on track just to secure a Europa League spot.

Nonetheless, Tottenham have shown improvement since last season, both in terms of their style of play and also in terms of results, for the most part.

Postecoglou has built some good foundations at Spurs and, with another summer transfer window under his belt, they’ll hopefully be a lot stronger come September.

However, one player who Tottenham are apparently eager to sign appears to have dealt Spurs a blow, according to a fresh report.

The player in question is Albert Gudmundsson, who has been making waves in Serie A for Genoa.

What is the latest on Tottenham target Albert Gudmundsson?

Back in April, Gudmundsson told The Telegraph that he “always thought about playing in the Premier League” ever since he was young, “so obviously it is something I definitely want to try.”

However, Football Transfers have now reported that the 26-year-old would prefer to remain in Italy, as he’s accustomed to the lifestyle there.

With that in mind, a switch to another Serie A club is now the most likely outcome for the €35million (£30million) ace, added the report.

In addition, Napoli are now believed to be the frontrunners for Gudmundsson, while Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus are also in pursuit.

Tottenham must step up their efforts to sign Albert Gudmundsson

Although this report doesn’t bode well for Spurs’ chances of signing Gudmundsson, it doesn’t necessarily mean they should give up the chase.

The top Premier League clubs can blow their Serie A counterparts out of the water when it comes to the financial aspect of a move.

Gudmundsson is also friends with Radu Dragusin, who moved from Genoa to Tottenham in January. He could hopefully put a few good words in about Spurs.

The Iceland international is a ‘magic‘ talent who looks ready for a big career move. Tottenham should step up their efforts to convince him of a move to Spurs and ultimately sign him before it’s too late.
