'Physically': Inter Miami star reveals he has actually been carrying an injury for three months

An Inter Miami star has admitted he has been carrying an injury for the last three months despite being a regular for the Herons.

The Florida franchise have been plagued with problems this season from Lionel Messi missing an entire month to Facundo Farias being ruled out for the year after picking up an ACL injury at the very start of pre-season.

With the likes of Jordi Alba and Federico Redondo all out on the treatment table, Inter Miami’s injury luck has been some of the worst from an MLS team all season, even with all the quality and depth the Herons have.

And an Inter Miami star has now admitted he has been playing with an injury for most of the season.

Nicolas Freire shares Inter Miami injury update after impressive start

Speaking to the press after yesterday’s training, Argentine center-back Nicolas Freire revealed that he has been playing the majority of the season with an injury, with the defender arriving in Florida in January with a fitness issue.

The on-loan Tigres star has been impressive for Inter Miami since becoming Tata Martino’s starting center-back alongside Tomas Aviles this season, with Freire bringing experience and leadership to the backline.

Yet news that Freire has been playing with a problem will come across as worrying for Inter Miami fans, even if the schedule has now calmed down a lit after being knocked out of the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Freire said: “I’m getting there, step by step, but this is a good league. As you know, I arrived with an injury and I have been carrying it for more than three months now. Personally, I am doing all I can to feel physically good, and this work is helping me feel 100%.

Freire could do with a rest if he is still dealing with fitness issues

With Inter Miami sitting top of the Supporters’ Sheild standings and upcoming fixtures fairly winnable, giving Freire some rest could be a wise decision from the Herons.

As we know, overworking players is a one-way ticket to injury problems becoming worse, and losing Freire before the opening of the summer transfer window to something serious would be a major blow.

Indeed, Inter Miami can’t afford to lose Freire, and resting the Argentine for a game or two might not be the worst idea in the world for the Florida franchise this month.
