£33m Everton ace has now done something more than any other player in Europe's top five leagues

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana has now done something more than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues.

The Belgian has had to make do with a bit-part role during Everton’s good run of form, having featured as a substitute in the wins over Liverpool, Brentford and Luton Town.

Onana’s last start came during the 6-0 humbling against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. With Everton facing already relegated Sheffield United on Saturday, Onana could be set to return to the starting XI.

It’s certainly been a difficult season for the highly-rated midfielder. Transfer rumour andtalk of an exit probably haven’t helped.

The £33million signing’s versatility is one of his stronger attributes. He’s more than capable of weighing in with a goal but also competent in a deeper position, and that’s where a standout statistic lies.

As highlighted by DataMB, the 22-year-old has the highest duel win rate in Europe’s top five leagues.

Currently, Onana wins 62.3 per cent of his duels, which cannot be matched in England, France, Germany, Spain or Italy.

Could Everton lose Amadou Onana this summer?

The 2023/24 season feels as if it could have been so much more for the Belgian. After joining the club in 2022, there’s always been a feeling that he’s destined to reach a high level.

But, this season, perhaps due to the club’s off-the-field issues and poor form in 2024, Onana has struggled to reach the heights most expected of him.

Given his age and potential ceiling, it’s believed the club have slapped a £50million transfer fee on his head.

However, with off-the-field issues still engulfing Goodison Park, an exit for a lesser amount cannot be ruled out in the summer window.

777 Partners’ takeover is in disarray, meaning there’s the potential for some of Everton’s key players to be sold in the coming months. It’s not outrageous to suggest Onana could be earmarked to depart in a bid to raise funds.
