A social media influencer is on the cusp of completing his charitable 30-day challenge of turning a vacant retail unit into a thriving café with only £300.

TikTok star Max McCann has invited the people of Newbury to join him to celebrate the completion of the challenge and take part in a display of collective generosity this weekend.

The café — called McCann’s Coffee Shop and located in the Kennet Centre — was set up with giving back to the community in mind, with Mr McCann encouraging customers to pay forward for coffees that would be donated to those in need.

He said: “Since the launch of our challenge, we have raised thousands of paid forward food items and drinks, supporting many local businesses and charities.”

The celebration will take place tomorrow (Saturday, May 11) from 10am to 4pm at the coffee shop.

The event will feature live entertainment provided by Jolly Pop, an entertainment company based in Newbury, with characters and activities to delight children and families.

There will also be local singers and musicians performing throughout the day, as well as fresh baked treats made at the Waterside Café.

Mr McCann added: “We are honoured to have local favourite Maggie, 74 years young and a beloved figure at our coffee shop, cut the ribbon to open the shop for the party.

“Maggie's presence embodies the community spirit that drives our efforts to give back to those in need.

“Attendees will enjoy fresh homemade lemonade, hot drinks and snacks while being encouraged to bring non-perishable food items or cash donations to support our local soup kitchen and food bank.

“We are thrilled to host this pay it forward party as a celebration of our community's generosity and compassion.

“It's a joyous occasion to mark the end of our challenge and to continue supporting those in need in our community.”
