Sheffield Wednesday transfer round up: Owls eyeing four new signings as midfielder exit confirmed

Sheffield Wednesday appear to be readying themselves for a busy summer in the transfer market.

Sheffield Wednesday can finally press on with their summer preparations after beating the drop in the Championship thanks to a 2-0 win at Sunderland on the final day of the season.

And it seems like owner Dejphon Chansiri is doing his best to encourage Danny Rohl to stay in S6, with improvements to the training ground and talks of a new contract for the German manager.

The Owls are also being linked with a handful of players. Here we round up all the latest Sheffield Wednesday transfer news and rumours…

Sheffield Wednesday keeping tabs on Duncan McGuire

Sheffield Wednesday missed out on Orlando City and USMNT striker Duncan McGuire during the winter transfer window.

It was a chaotic deadline day for McGuire who was going to and from Blackburn Rovers and Wednesday in the hope of sealing a move to the Championship.

In the end, he missed out on both, and he’s now back at Orlando City where he’s started the MLS season with four goals in nine games.

It’s reported that Sheffield Wednesday have kept on tracking McGuire, who currently has offers from Belgium and Germany.

Sheffield Wednesday eyeing James Beadle loan

Someone who the Owls did manage to sign in January was 19-year-old goalkeeper James Beadle on loan from Brighton.

He went on to keep eight clean sheets in 19 league outings for Wednesday, playing a key role in eventually getting the club over the line.

Since the end of the season, it’s been claimed by Alan Nixon that Sheffield Wednesday are keen to re-sign Beadle on loan, with the youngster out of the first-team picture at Brighton.

Clubs join race to sign Ian Poveda

It’s no secret that Sheffield Wednesday want to bring Ian Poveda back to Hillsborough on a permanent basis this summer.

He’s out of contract at Leeds United but the Owls are now facing fresh competition for his signature, with reports on Friday revealing that Burnley, Luton Town, and Sunderland are all keen on the 24-year-old.

His Leeds side remain in the Championship play-offs and so it’s likely that his future will become clearer once their season has finished.

Di’Shon Bernard wanted

Sheffield Wednesday also want to keep Di’Shon Bernard beyond this summer, but he too is of interest to other clubs.

The 23-year-old centre-back sees his contract expire next month and emerging reports say that Bernard has interest from the Championship and from elsewhere in Europe.

There’s no indication of whether or not he’ll stay in S6, though Sheffield Wednesday are desperate to keep hold of him.

Sheffield Wednesday fancy Ike Ugbo reunion

Ike Ugbo was the first of three players to sign on loan in January.

He was followed by Beadle and Poveda through the doors and Sheffield Wednesday are also keen on re-signing him this summer, with his parent club Troyes facing relegation to the French third tier.

It’s said that the Owls are looking into a permanent deal, though whether or not they’ll have the resources to make it happen remains to be seen.

George Byers attracting widespread interest

One player whose summer exit has now been confirmed by reports is George Byers.

The midfielder will leave Sheffield Wednesday after three seasons having spent the second half of the 2023/24 campaign on loan with Blackpool.

He’s set to become a free agent but already has interest from a number of League One clubs, including Sheffield Wednesday’s South Yorkshire rivals Barnsley and Rotherham United.
