Breaking news that Melania Trump had declined on her son Barron's behalf an invitation to serve as a Florida delegate to the Republican National Convention spurred almost immediate mockery of his father, former President Donald Trump.

A spokesperson for Melania issued a statement Friday hours after Trump publicly boasted of his youngest son's height and political prowess.

The Office of former First Lady Melania Trump confirmed in a statement to The Daily Mail, "While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments."

In one case, the laughter was less than subtle.

"LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" replied political strategist Simon Rosenberg.

X user Alayna Treene posited a theory likely based on her recollection of footage of Donald and Melania Trump arriving in Tel Aviv in 2017.

"Wow. Sounds like this was never agreed upon," replied Treene. "I'll bet Lara made the decision and Melania slapped it down (like she did Trump's hand)."

X user Pat Collins took a stab at guessing what Barron Trump's prior commitments might be.

"Those video games aren't gonna play themselves, obviously," Collins wrote. "I'm no Melania fan, but I think she has the instinct to keep her son as far away from his dear old dad as possible."

"Could it be that he has always known Daddy is a punk, a coward and he wants nothing to do with this circus to come," asked Alan Geik.

"Hopefully, but it must be hard for him," replied X user Kaz. "The guy is still his father. I feel for the kid."
